Español — Simple future
The Spanish simple future adds one set of endings straight onto the whole infinitive: hablar → hablaré. A dozen common verbs replace the infinitive with a shortened stem, but keep the exact same endings.
How it works
For regular verbs, keep the full infinitive and add -é, -ás, -á, -emos, -éis, -án. The same endings work for all three conjugations: hablar → hablaré, comer → comeré, vivir → viviré. Every form except nosotros carries a written accent.
Irregular stems
| Infinitive | Future stem | yo form |
|---|---|---|
| tener | tendr- | tendré |
| hacer | har- | haré |
| decir | dir- | diré |
| poder | podr- | podré |
| poner | pondr- | pondré |
| salir | saldr- | saldré |
| venir | vendr- | vendré |
| querer | querr- | querré |
Good to know
There are twelve irregular stems in all: besides the eight above, add sabr- (saber → sabré), cabr- (caber → cabré), habr- (haber → habrá) and valdr- (valer → valdré). They only change the stem — never the endings, so it is always tendré, not the wrong hablar-style *teneré. Note also that decir → diré drops more than a consonant.
