Polski — Conjugation group III (-am, -asz)
The largest and most regular Polish present-tense group. Verbs like czytać, mieszkać and mieć take the endings -am, -asz, -a, -amy, -acie, -ają.
1
How it works
✓ Rule
Drop the infinitive -ć and add the endings to the stem: czytać → czyt-am, czyt-asz, czyt-a, czyt-amy, czyt-acie, czyt-ają. The 1st and 2nd person plural keep the vowel a (czytamy, czytacie), and the 3rd person plural always ends in -ają (czytają, mieszkają).

Good to know
⚠ Note
mieć is the odd one out: its stem loses the -e-, so you say mam, masz, ma, mamy, macie, mają — never "miem". Regular verbs like czytać and mieszkać keep the full stem (czytam, mieszkam). Also note that subject pronouns (ja, ty, my…) are usually dropped, because the ending already shows the person: Czytam książkę = "I'm reading a book".
