Français — Numbers above 100
Above 100 French uses cent, mille, million and milliard, plus the special counting patterns soixante-dix (70), quatre-vingts (80) and quatre-vingt-dix (90). Agreement rules on cent and vingt are a frequent trap.
1
How it works
✓ Rule
70 = soixante-dix (60+10), 80 = quatre-vingts (4×20), 90 = quatre-vingt-dix (4×20+10). Numbers combine by addition: cent uses no article (cent euros), but you say un million de and un milliard de. Example: 1 234 = mille deux cent trente-quatre.

⚠ Note
cent and vingt take -s when multiplied and standing at the end (deux cents, quatre-vingts), but lose it before another number (deux cent trois, quatre-vingt-un). mille is invariable — never milles (trois mille). million and milliard are nouns and do take -s (deux millions, trois milliards).
