Italiano — Preposition a
The preposition a covers several roles: indirect object, place and motion with city names, time, manner, and before an infinitive.
1
How it works
✓ Rule
The preposition a introduces the indirect object (Scrivo a Marco), marks motion toward or being in a city (Vado a Roma, Abito a Milano), expresses time (alle otto), manner (a piedi), and links many verbs to a following infinitive (Comincio a studiare).

⚠ Note
With city names use a, but with countries use in (in Italia). Before a definite article, a fuses with it: a + il = al, a + la = alla (al mare, alla stazione).
