Use in for enclosed places and rooms (in cucina, in ufficio), for countries and regions (Vivo in Italia, in Toscana), for means of transport (Vado in treno, in aereo) and for time spans and seasons (in estate, in due ore).

Good to know
⚠ Note
With cities use a, not in: Vivo a Roma (not in Roma). When the noun carries an article, in merges with it: nel giardino, nella stanza — not in il / in la.
