Français — Possessive determiners
French possessive determiners agree in gender and number with the thing owned, not with the owner. « My » is mon (masculine), ma (feminine) or mes (plural): mon frère, ma sœur, mes parents.

How it works
✓ Rule
Pick the form by the gender and number of the noun that follows: mon/ton/son before a masculine word, ma/ta/sa before a feminine word, mes/tes/ses in the plural. For nous, vous and ils/elles there is just one singular form (notre, votre, leur) and one plural (nos, vos, leurs): notre maison, nos amis.

Forms
| Possessor | Singular (m. / f.) | Plural |
|---|---|---|
| je | mon / ma | mes |
| tu | ton / ta | tes |
| il / elle | son / sa | ses |
| nous | notre | nos |
| vous | votre | vos |
| ils / elles | leur | leurs |

⚠ Note
Before a feminine word beginning with a vowel or a silent h, use mon/ton/son instead of ma/ta/sa for easier pronunciation: mon amie (not ma amie), ton école, son histoire.
