Español — Absolute superlative
The absolute superlative expresses a very high degree without comparing with anything: buenísimo means "extremely good", the same idea as muy bueno. It is formed with the ending -ísimo/-ísima or with muy + adjective.
1
How it works
✓ Rule
Drop the final vowel of the adjective and add -ísimo/-ísima, agreeing in gender and number: fácil → facilísimo, buena → buenísima. Adjectives ending in a consonant just add the ending: fácil → facilísimo. It always carries a written accent on the í.
2
Examples
| Adjective → superlative | Note |
|---|---|
| bueno → buenísimo | regular ending -ísimo |
| fácil → facilísimo | consonant ending, adds -ísimo |
| rico → riquísimo | c → qu before -ísimo |
| largo → larguísimo | g → gu before -ísimo |
| feliz → felicísimo | z → c before -ísimo |
| guapa → guapísima | feminine agreement -ísima |

Good to know
⚠ Note
The -ísimo form and muy + adjective mean nearly the same: es facilísimo ≈ es muy fácil. Do not combine them (never muy facilísimo). A few adjectives take learned forms: bueno can also be óptimo, and antiguo becomes antiquísimo.
