Español — Relative superlative
The relative superlative singles out one element as the most or least of a group: el país más grande de América, la ciudad menos cara.

How it works
✓ Rule
Structure: definite article (el/la/los/las) + optional noun + más/menos + adjective + de + group. The article and the adjective agree with the noun: el alumno más alto de la clase, las montañas más altas del mundo. The group phrase uses de, not que: la mejor película del año.

Good to know
⚠ Note
The irregular adjectives replace más/menos entirely — never say el más bueno or el más malo; use el mejor, el peor. Mayor and menor refer to age (el hijo mayor), while for physical size Spanish keeps the regular el más grande, el más pequeño. When the noun is dropped, the article carries the meaning: de todos, el mejor.
