English — the imperative
The easiest structure in English: just the base verb, no subject. One form for everyone.
1
How it works
✓ Rule
Use the base verb with no subject: Come here! Sit down! Wait! For the negative, put Don't before it: Don't worry! Don't be late!
2
The forms
| Type | Example |
|---|---|
| affirmative | Open the door. |
| negative | Don't open the door. |
| polite (please) | Please sit down. |
| suggestion (let's) | Let's go! |

Good to know
⚠ Note
To soften a command, add please or turn it into a question: Could you open the window? The subject “you” is normally dropped, but you can add it for emphasis: You be quiet!
