werden has three grammatical roles: a full verb meaning "to become" (Es wird kalt), the auxiliary of the future tense (Ich werde kommen), and the auxiliary of the passive (Das Haus wird gebaut).

How it works
✓ Rule
Present tense: ich werde, du wirst, er/sie/es wird, wir werden, ihr werdet, sie werden. As a full verb it takes a complement (Er wird Lehrer); for the future it combines with an infinitive (Sie wird lernen); for the passive it combines with a past participle (Der Brief wird geschrieben).

⚠ Note
In the perfect tense the participle differs: the full verb uses geworden (Er ist Arzt geworden), but the passive drops the ge- and uses worden (Das Haus ist gebaut worden).
