Italiano — Direct object pronouns
Unstressed clitics mi, ti, lo, la, ci, vi, li, le replace the direct object and normally stand right before the verb: Lo conosco.
1
How it works
✓ Rule
The pronoun agrees with the noun it replaces in gender and number and precedes the conjugated verb: Compri il pane? — Sì, lo compro. Vedi Maria? — Sì, la vedo. In the passato prossimo the past participle agrees with lo, la, li, le: Li ho visti, Le ho comprate.

Good to know
⚠ Note
Only lo and la elide before a vowel or h, becoming l': L'ascolto (him/her), L'ho visto. The plural forms li and le never elide: Li ascolto, not *L'ascolto for the plural. With modal + infinitive the pronoun may go before the modal or attach to the infinitive: Lo voglio vedere = Voglio vederlo.
