Polski — Personal pronoun declension

Polish personal pronouns change form depending on case. Many have a long (stressed) and a short (clitic) form — for example jego/go and ciebie/cię — plus special forms after prepositions, such as do niego and z nim.

1

How it works

✓ Rule

Each pronoun has case forms: ja → mnie, mi; ty → ciebie, cię, tobie, ci; on → jego, go, jemu, mu. The short forms (go, mu, cię, ci) are unstressed — they cannot begin a sentence or follow a preposition — while the long forms (jego, jemu, ciebie) carry emphasis.

Table of forms

ja mnie, mi, mną do mnie, ze mną
ty cię, ci, ciebie, tobą do ciebie, z tobą
on go, mu, jego, jemu, nim do niego, z nim
ona ją, jej, nią do niej, z nią
my nas, nam, nami do nas, z nami
wy was, wam, wami do was, z wami
oni ich, im, nimi do nich, z nimi

Good to know

⚠ Note

After a preposition, on and ona take the n- forms: do niego, z nim, o niej, do nich. Use the long form after a preposition (do mnie, not do mi), and note the special instrumental ze mną and z tobą.
