Auxiliary: haben
'kennen' is a mixed verb (kannte, gekannt) meaning to know a person, place or thing from experience — unlike 'wissen', which is knowing a fact. In Konjunktiv II it keeps the stem vowel without umlaut (kennte). It takes 'haben'.
