to lift / to raise

Auxiliary: avoir

'lever' is a first-group -e-er verb: the e of the stem becomes è before a silent ending (je lève) and throughout the future and conditional (je lèverai). Compound tenses use 'avoir'; the reflexive 'se lever' means 'to get up'.

Je lève la main pour poser une question.
