mögen is a modal verb with an irregular present tense (Präteritopräsens). In everyday speech it most commonly expresses liking; as a modal it expresses possibility or concession. The subjunctive II form 'möchte' (would like) is extremely frequent and often treated as a separate polite form.
Ich mag Schokolade sehr gerne.
